from the "No, It's Not An Onion Article This Time" Department:

Via Yahoo News: "Georgia Mother Seeks Harry Potter Ban"

from the article:

Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction series is an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion.

Sigh.

Where do you even begin?

I mean, it could be a hoax, I suppose. But apparently Gwinnett County has a history of bonehead moves like this - to include trying to cut the library budget's $3,000 allotment for spanish-language library books.

Stay tuned.

Comments:
Yah know, this woman has too much time on her hands and don't even get me started on the blonde jokes.

Has anyone ever heard of CS Lewis? Yes? Chronicles of Narnia, perhaps? Witches and trolls and magical creatures all over the place? Not to mention conflict between good and evil and all sorts of allegorical goodies?

oh but then...JK Rowling isn't the greatest CHristian apologist ever. No She's just a Brit divorcee who was on welfare.

I wish folk would turn their energy toward things that really matter.

It's sort of interesting to read some of these folks on C.S. Lewis. some of 'em will be all, no, Narnia's okay because, unike Rowling, he's saying witches are BAD! and others are all, nuh-uh! he's NOT A REAL CHRISTIAN (sound familiar?) if he were he wouldn't keep talking about the OCCULT so much, and check out how his doctrine is completely messed up, with footnotes, and...

yeah.

I'm sick of this woman making Georgians look bad.

Freaking Gwinnett County.

rootie~ don't do blonde jokes, it totally devalues a valid statement as pissiness. you have much more to offer than that. and let the woman run her mouth about all the books she wants. i only wish she'd pick some lesser known work. all she's doing is promoting it. i mean, everyone can name at least two or three banned/burned books. they're still in print and being read while their opponents are dead and buried. so if that's all she has to contribute, i say thanks. keep at it motormouth.
