Comments:
woo! another Of Human Bondage fan...

I really dug that book. I went on a massive Maugham kick thereafter.

Hey, don't ever put A Tree Grows in Brooklyn in the guilty pleasures category. I've read that book about 10 times and each time am struck by how beautiful it is, and how lovely the writing is.

My guilty pleasure is Stephen King, so...don't feel bad!

It sounds like you should track down a copy of this.

hahaha! there really is Umberto Eco for Dummies !

dan rocks my world.

Whoa... AP, are we the same person? I am also currently reading The Name of the Rose, and this weekend I was hunting for Pornified in the bookstores. And Still Life with Woodpecker is one of my favorites. Arrrrggghhh....!

I accept your tagging. :)

Amber - we're also both Scorpios. What day is your birthday? Maybe we are long-lost twins. Princess twins. Princess twins from another planet whose real parents are coming back for them any day now...

I think you were tagged twice, once by me, once by someone else. 'cuz U R 2 popular! (I wish there was some "alt + seventh-grade" functionality built into the keyboard in order to dot "i"s and make exclamation/question marks with hearts or smiley faces...)

My birthday is Oct. 30th... now you go!

If someone else tagged me, I missed it. Now I am sooooo embarrassed!

Nov. 9.

crap. we're not outer-space princess twins.

Being lazy and such, I tagged everybody on this thread that ap didn't tag, and then some. :)

Hi, Amber!

I LOVE "Rose". Unfortunately I saw the movie first("palimpsest" is right)as a young teenager and was not expecting the intellectual behemoth I encountered when first reading it. I finished it about three days ago, this having been my first reread of it in nearly ten years. It kicked my entire ass again but I absorbed it in a way I could not some time ago. As AP is reading it now I wouldn't want to let anything slip in dialogue but I just wanted to see what you though of it.

Thanks for the visit! I love your blog. Very, very interesting stuff here.

thanks, Trouble!

while you're here, check out the blogs of my commenters.

crap. we're not outer-space princess twins.

or maybe it was just an extraordinarily long labour?

(our poor mom)

hi Vinny! welcome!
I see you're a knitter.

Take Back The Knit! haw!

Dumbest Pick-up line Ever:

Once upon a time (about 4 years ago, if anyone's counting) I was on my way to a class at the local community college. I got into the elevator and saw that the only other person in the elevator with me was a fellow about my age, well dressed, well groomed, holding a copy of "Foucalt's Pendulum".

I said "is that Umberto Eco in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"

sadly, it worked.

probably worth noting that the fellow was not the Man Who Would Be Husband. He was a nice guy, but Not For Me.

Antiprince caught my attention by reciting entire pages of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy from memory.

sure, it ain't Shakespeare, but I was so astonished at the time that someone else was even aware of Douglas Adams that it swept me off my feet.

Mmmm, Foucault's Pendulum.

It's been about three years since I did that one. (Weirdly, I've had Baudolino for about the same time and haven't started it yet.)

I don't think you actually have to read Eco to be a chick magnet - you just have to carry it around...
